Positive Dog Training

So I decided that I am going to pursue Dog Training as a business. I have loved working with our dogs and have been successful without a lot of training. So now I am working on educating myself and gaining some experience so I can one day help others train their dogs.

Having spent the last few years breeding Labradoodles and seeing the great results I have had with ours, and our puppy families have had with theirs, I think that this will be a great breed to learn with. They are very easy to train and LOVE to please their owners.

The book I am starting with is called "The Power of Positive Training" by Pat Miller. I love the idea of training dogs without using physical force to correct their behavior. While train our poodle, Lucy, our toy poodle, Lola, and our Larbadoodle, Willa, I have never had to smack or correct them using force. I find that using a treat works perfect.

The book has a 6 week plan that I will be following. I will post my results and successes along the way. I'll be working with our newest family member, Jasper. he is an Australian Labradoodle and going to be our newest stud dog. He is VERY friendly, about 1 year old, 11 lbs, and has not had any previous training. He doesn't have very many behavioral issues, just the usual puppy traits. I look forward to being very successful with him as I know this will make him happy.

Here is a picture of Jasper.

Puppy Training Tip

One great way to teach your puppy how to behave indoors, including not peeing, is to confine the puppy to one area of your house. A common area used is the kitchen. This is a great way to include the puppy in family affairs.

However, you will still want to introduce your puppy to the other areas of the house so they do not become an adult dog that doesn't know how to behave in the rest of the house.

To accomplish this, take your puppy for walks, on a leash, through out the house daily. Do this AFTER taking the puppy outside so she doesn't have an accident.

Another great thing you can do is to bring the puppy with you if you need to work on your computer, or sit somewhere for a while. Keep them on a leash close by and give them a toy to keep them busy. This will get your puppy used to being near you and not misbehaving.
